Only Republicans ask this because only Republicans are incapable of understanding why being Republican is unappealing to regular decent folk. They know they don’t belong outside their circles, but they will never be able to reflect and understand why. So they just go around asking people their political affiliations in order to judge whether or not they are in a “safe space.”

    2. Reminds of yt South Africans who left SA around 1996-98. You meet them in the wild nowadays in the UK and US and they say stuff like “I/we left because it was getting challenging to find jobs”, yeeeee okay Kobus

    3. 1968 is when Nixon used the Southern Strategy to solidify the GOP as the party of white supremacy and sweep the south

    4. Lots of conservatives say they can’t support the ‘extreme’ positions of the democrats and then when you really probe into it the extreme positions are just basic human decency towards a group of people they don’t like.

    5. It must be an *interesting* experience to work in a nursing home located in the south. I remember seeing a thread here about black health care workers talking about the kinds of things patients who no longer had a filter would just say out loud.

    6. It’s very true that only Republicans ask point blank your political affiliation. I live in MAGA country or Florida, and conservatives just bring up their conservative talking points unprovoked all the time. Especially at work 😩

    7. For those unfamiliar, look up Dixiecrats. Although to be fair, if you are Black and don’t know that the parties essentially flipped when Black folks started pushing en masse for equal treatment then we might need to refocus on some history lessons

“Go crazy” meaning they started to give minorities and other non-straight white people the civil liberties they deserve.

    9. when in 1968 Democrats turned into Repubs and the parties switched? Guess she was always a POS …

“I don’t support either party as I believe they are both in place to continue lining the pockets of billionaires” usually gives them the blue screen of death face and then they let you do your job

How old was she? If she was a Democrat until 1968 she would have had to have been born in 1950 just to vote in that year’s election. If she was a Democrat up to but not including 1968, this implies she would have voted in a previous election, making her at least 77 if she voted in the midterms or 79 if 1964 was the first presidential election she voted in. That or she was just lying and/or senile.

    12. I’ve done call center work for a few years now and it doesn’t always happen, but I have had my fair share of callers that are just eager to share their beliefs. It goes without saying what kind of beliefs they tend to be.

    13. I’m a leftist who will ask “who’d you vote for?” or something. I can tolerate Dems, but I have no time to deal with people who vote Republican.

    14. I worked at a place and I had to take calls for customer service support and god damn we used to get wild cranks who would call and just yell about how these prices today on things were all cause of Obama and the country went to hell giving away our money to illegals. Many times I would have to turn them down for some service and they would start screaming out of nowhere “I BET YOU’RE A LIBERAL AREN’T YOU ?!!?!” and just start foaming at the mouth and it was the most confusing shit cause it had less than ZERO to do with politics in ANY way.

These peoples heads were full of angry ghosts they were fighting , had nothing to do with me.

I never got a call form someone screaming at me from the other end of the political spectrum. I worked there for years and it never happened once.

    15. I worked at Comcast for a while and I had a quite a few weird experiences, but the Trumper ones are pretty memorable. This was during his first campaign/early days of his first term. First one was a dude with the Trump memorabilia, a “build the wall” sign, and a racist lawn jockey on his putting green out back. Homie sucked ass and was rude as shit to me. I was starting to wonder if I said something wrong before I saw all that stuff. Turned out he was a cheapskate and wired his entire house with an old coax table. I *probably* could have gave him a temporary solution and got his stuff working, but I was uncomfortable af and told him he’s SOL before I gtfo as fast as I could.

The other weird experience I was at a house a Trump sign and a lot of Christian stuff on the walls. It was late, and they were a family of 5 in the middle of dinner. I had to interact with the dad of the house a lot for him to tell me how their home theatre worked/how he wanted it set up. He insisted I ask him if I needed anything and so I did. Every time, and I mean EVERY TIME, I popped my head in to ask him a question, everyone would stop eating. He forgot his phone in the living area at the front of the house and one time I walked back with him chatting while he grabbed it. That’s when I realized every time he left they just stopped eating and sat there. They weren’t even talking. Just sitting there looking at each other. I struggle to recall if they ever even looked at me or interacted with me. He offered me a seat at the table when I was all done, but I politely declined. Honestly a really nice guy and everything else in the house felt normal. Just that part felt odd.

Damn what happened in the mid 60s that might have radicalized this individual? I guess we’ll never know.

    17. I proudly support George Wallace to this day and whatnot.
